Avoid These Three Mistakes to Keep Overlocker Repairs From Happening

Whether you want to do sewing full time or only as a hobby, it is important that you know how to care for and maintain your machine. You need to know how to avoid having to do overlocker repairs, which are often a result of carelessness. When the overlocker is neglected, sewing becomes tedious because the needles start to break, stitches are going to skip, and your fabric gets ruined. The following are mistakes you need to avoid so you will not have to repair over and over again.

Not Spending on a Good Overlocker Thread

Most likely, you use only a good quality thread for other parts of the sewing machine, but this is important for the overlocker as well. It might be tempting to get the threads that are always on sale at the sewing store, but the high-quality threads have good cones that run smoothly. There will be beautiful tension almost all the time because there is good thread that passes consistently.

More expensive threads have a smoother texture and less lint so that your machine stays clean for a longer period of time.

Failing to Lubricate the Machine When Needed

Overlocker repairs could also be caused by a machine that is not lubricated, especially if your machine is an older one. The older models require more lubrication because they still have manual parts working to complete the sewing process. The modern sewing machines already have technological advancements, and some of them could even self-lubricate.

You need to remember that when you are lubricating the sewing machine, make sure that you are not overdoing it. Putting too much oil in draws in a lot of lint and dirt. This could contribute to the machine's mechanical problems in the future.

Wasting Thread

You can save a lot of thread by rotating spools. You need to know that it is the upper looper that uses the highest amount of thread. In order for all cones to run out all at the same time, rotating the spool occasionally and switching the needle cones will prevent you from having any thread runs. If you allow this to happen a lot, overlocker repairs will be needed more often. In addition, you can work continuously without experiencing any setbacks if you need to finish right away.

Overlocker repairs should not happen so often, especially if you are working on something really important. Just avoid these mistakes and you are good to go.
